Explore Banff: Gateway to Canada’s Rocky Mountain Adventure

Nestled within the breathtaking Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada, the town of Banff is a premier mountain resort destination known for its stunning natural beauty, vibrant culture, and endless outdoor adventures. Located along the Trans-Canada Highway, Banff is approximately 126 km (78 mi) west of Calgary and 58 km (36 mi) east of Lake Louise, with an elevation range of 1,400 to 1,630 m (4,590 to 5,350 ft) above sea level—making it the second-highest community in Alberta.

A Rich History in the Heart of Nature

Banff was settled in the 1880s after the Canadian Pacific Railway workers discovered hot springs on Sulphur Mountain. By 1885, the area was designated as a federal reserve, marking the foundation of Canada’s national parks system. Named after Banffshire, Scotland, the town soon became a hub for travelers and tourists alike. Banff Springs Hotel was constructed along the railway, and soon after, Banff grew as a destination for rest, relaxation, and exploration.

Today, Banff remains a part of Canada’s rich heritage, with Banff National Park now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Banff is also home to a crater on Mars, named after the town in 1976!
